Life in Medellin, Colombia
I stayed in the city of Eternal Spring — Medellin, Colombia from June 18 to July 23rd. There are several blog posts that details what to do, where to stay etc. in Medellin. However, I discuss the digital nomad life in Medellin. This blog goes over:
Week Activities: The things to do from Monday to Friday Evenings
Areas to go out: Locations in Medellin to go out for party, food, and drinks
Salsa Bars and Clubs: The places in Medellin to salsa with the locals. Including some pros!
Restaurants, Coffee and Brunch: Restaurants in Medellin
Bars with Rooftop Views: These are bars with rooftop views of Medellin
Hostels to stay at: Hostels which are popping and places to stay.
Things to do: There are plenty of blogs of things to do, so these are things I just did.
Coworking: Places to cowork in Medellin, again plenty of posts for this. But places I explored and I liked.
WhatsApp Groups: Whatsapp groups for all things Medellin.
Other places to visit: These are towns I visited outside of Medellin, which were amazing to see and explore
This isn’t exhaustive, and all of this my opinion, and places I have visited. I have the assumption that you will look into the areas of Medellin Medellin is huge and there is a lot to do, explore the city and join the fun!
Weekly evening Activity
Monday night:
Salsa at Selina Cowork at 8PM
Bachata at Parque del rio
Tuesday night: Gringo Tuesdays
Wednesday night: Language exchange and then salsa at Masaya Hostel. Also Salsa at Son Havana in Laureles
Thursday night: Nueva Guardia Salsa and Bachata
Friday: Party it out at Provenza
Areas of Medellin to go out
Provenza in Pablado: Pablado is one of the “Gringo” regions of Medellin, and provenza is a street and area in Pablado with Bars, Clubs, and upscale resturants
Carrera 70 in Laurales: Laurales is the other “Gringo” region of Medellin, and Carrera 70 is a specific street with bars, this is a bit more local than provenza and cheaper. Best place to go during Football games.
Salsa Bars and clubs
The clubs I have listed here are offer a group class as well. Laurales is definitely the region for salsa.
Son Havana: There are two son Havana’s one in Pablado and another in Laurales. This is known for Salsa and especially one Laurales. On Wednesday locals come tear up the dance floor. I would definitely give this one a try.
Tibiri: An underground Salsa Club. This place is always popping with locals going crazy with Salsa.
La Pascosia: I unfortunately didn’t visit this club but has been on my recommendation list
El Eslabòn: Same as La Pascosia…
Nueva Guardia: I went here on a thursday night, and it was pretty lit.
Restaurants, coffee and brunch
I am not going too deep into these but most of these restaurants are on other blogs, which you can read about :)
La Causa (restaurant)
Parmasano (restaurant)
Cafe Velvet (cafe)
cafe pergamino (cafe)
hija mia nomada (cafe)
hija mia (cafe)
Azul Selva (cafe and restaurant)
Brutal (restaurant)
Carmen (restaurant)
Restaurante el cielo (restaurant)
The wok (restaurant)
Mondongo’s (famous authentic colombian food)
Rooftops views
Masaya Hostel: This is an hostel in Pablado which has very nice views. The vibe is a bit quiet except when there is a free dance class by DanceFree on Wednesdays.
Envy Rooftop bar: This is a pretty upscale bar with really nice views of the city.
Haven: We didn’t visit Haven but I have heard very good things about it.
Hostels
Selina Cowork: I stayed at Selina. Since this was one first Nomad trip, I thought the stay in Selina was amazing. However, every single other person I talked to said Medellin Selina was subpar compared to others. I did notice that there were constant issues with water and etc.
Masaya Hostel: I didn’t stay here but a friend told me this hostel is for families and etc. A little more quiet compared to others.
Viajero: I heard this hostel was popping and amazing place to stay.
Things to do
Again, I won’t go into the details as there are several blog posts on things to do. However, I did want to list the main things to do in Medellin.
Paragliding
Guatape
Comuna 13
Parque Arvi and the cable cars
Plaza Botero
Plaza Minorista Market
Atletico Nacional Football game
Cowork
There are lot of coworking spaces in Medellin here are a few that I went to
Selina: I worked here and I had an amazing time meeting folks from all over the world. Although I have to say this was a bit expensive for Colombia
WeWork: I personally didn’t work here, but my friends who did said it was quiet and people got work done.
Open Space: This is a small coworking space run by an artist. Amazing vibes and very friendly. Mainly locals.
If I were to come back again, I won’t use a specific coworking space but would hop around a couple of places.
